PORT AUTHORITY LEADS FLY-IN DELEGATION TO CAPITOL HILL
Local Contingent Brings Public-Private Partnership Message to Ohio Delegation

HEATH –For the ninth year in a row, the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority will lead a contingent of public and private officials to Washington, D.C. to meet with key members and staff of the Ohio Congressional Delegation. The day-long event is set for tomorrow, Wednesday, March 25.

An 11-person contingent will visit both houses of Congress, attend a Port Authority-sponsored delegation reception, and tour the United Technologies Corporation Innovation Center. The fly-in is organized and funded by the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority.

The purpose of the day is to better acquaint Ohio’s Congressional Delegation with the status of key military work at the Central Ohio Aerospace and Technology Center and ask for the Delegation to spotlight the value and importance of the Aerospace Center to the nation’s aerospace and defense industry.

“At a time when defense-oriented facilities around the nation are trying to show value through public-private partnerships and private capital investment, the Aerospace Center stands out as a model for both,” said Port Authority President and CEO Rick Platt. “The outcome we hope for from the day is a better informed Ohio Congressional delegation that will be by our side in the efforts to retain and grow the jobs and economic impact at the Aerospace Center.”

Officials from major employers at the Port Authority’s Aerospace Center campus—Boeing, Bionetics, and UTC Aerospace Systems—are attending along with local leaders, including City of Heath Mayor Mark Johns and Licking County Commissioners Duane Flowers and Rick Black.
