February 4, 2010
A delegation representing the public-private partnership that epitomizes the Central Ohio Aerospace & Technology Center flew,
for the day, to Washington D.C. to meet with key members and staff of Ohio's Congressional delegation. The visit also included a
visit by Heath Mayor Mark Johns and Licking County Commissioner Tim Bubb to the West Wing of the White House.
The focus of the February visit was to update the delegation on important initiatives at the Aerospace Center and to emphasize the value of statewide collaboration and focus on Ohio's aerospace and defense industry. Meetings were held
in the U.S. Capitol building with U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown and Congressman Zack Space. The contingent also met with Congressmen Pat Tiberi, Steve Austria, and Bob Latta in their respective Capitol Hill offices. A meeting with staff of Senator Voinovich and stops at other Ohio Congressional delegation offices also occurred.
In late afternoon, an invitation to visit with the local government liaison for the White House was accepted by Heath Mayor Mark Johns and Licking County Commissioner Tim Bubb. Both public officials represented Licking County and spoke about
the Aerospace Center in the West Wing of the White House.
The day gave a chance for Licking County to update members or, for many of their staff members,
acquaint them for the first time with the Central Ohio Aerospace and Technology Center--its impact and its key workloads.
The scheduled participants from Licking County were:
Charles Dutch, Boeing
Mike Cadenhead, Bionetics
Al Bonacci, Goodrich
Hon. Tim Bubb, Licking Co. Commissioner
Hon. Mark Johns, Mayor, City of Heath
Ron Sheldon, Port Authority Board
Rick Platt, Port Authority
This is the fourth straight year of a Port Authority-led fly-in. The day is organized by the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority as part of its caucus-building
strategy aimed at increasing knowledge among federal, state, and local officials about the value and impact of the Aerospace Center. No tax dollars are used to cover the
costs associated with the visit and no lobbyists are involved in any aspect of the visits.
